BIOMET group works in:

  1. Environmental impact of anthropogenic activities in the natural environment, phenomena of marine pollution.

  2. Ecotoxicological studies in aquatic ecosystems, bioaccumulation, transport, and oxidative damage studies in various marine organisms – bioindicators, and study of the impact of chemical compounds on the food chain.

  3. Chemistry of the atmospheric environment and indoor spaces, determination of various pollutants in aerosols.

  4. Study of metal speciation in aquatic systems, responsible for biological activity and impact. Ecotoxicological study of trace elements in biological fluids.

  5. Environmental studies of aquatic and marine ecosystems, in order to contribute to the establishment of environmental policy and legislation.

LAQBAM group works in two mainline

  1. Study of metal species of environmental importance, focusing on their toxic effects (phytotoxicity, neurotoxicity).

  2. Evaluation of the biological activity (antitumor, antimicrobial) of metal complexes.

Current Interests:

  1. Chelators for the treatment of iron overload.

  2. Metal complexes with antifungical and antileishmanial activity.

  3. Labile iron pool in blood plasma: characterization, quantification, and study of redox activity.

  4. Sorbents for heavy metals.
